The Pembroke School Annual Report : Annual Report 2016
strong and sincere attachment to Pembroke. In his stead, Ms Cathy Oster was elected to the Board. Cathy, a current parent and member of the Finance Committee, general counsel and company secretary, brings to the Board valuable legal experience in governance and risk management. Mr Simon Grubb's term as the staff elected member to the Board ended with the cessation of that position under the revised Constitution. Simon had undertaken this role with admirable commitment and understanding. Pursuant to the revised Constitution the Pembroke Old Scholars Association appointed for the first time a second member to the Board and we welcome Ms Alison Michell. Alison is an enthusiastic old scholar ('98), a prospective parent, with professional experience in journalism, marketing and social media. Pembroke continues to be most fortunate and appreciative of the calibre and diversity of those who volunteer their expertise and service to School governance. Foundation I thank Foundation Chair, Mr David Minns, the Foundation Director and all those involved in the essential endeavour of increasing philanthropy at Pembroke. The Foundation Board is expertly managing investing the Pembroke Endowment Fund and the Pembroke Public Ancillary Fund. The Board is strengthened by three new members: School Board member, Dr Darren Townsend, together with old scholar Mrs Amy Bredon and Junior School parent Ms Julia Steele Scott both with professional expertise in philanthropy and fundraising. The Capital Campaign Committee, chaired by Mr Nick Ross, has set about building awareness and translating the excitement generated around the new building into significant giving. Tributes We were saddened by the passing of Mrs Anne Jolly ('50). An old scholar, Anne co-authored the Girton history 'Willingly to School' and played a key role in the School's celebration of the Girton Centenary in 2015. She was Head of Languages at Pembroke, a School Trustee and Foundation Life Member. Anne led a life inspired by her dedication to the French language and culture. I commend to you this report, and thank you for your continuing support of Pembroke School as it further enhances the opportunities and support for our students.
